Our fortnightly update!

(Oops. I guess it’s been bit longer than a fortnight.)

Yes, we are still here! Unfortunately, we’ve been very busy of late, between June liturgical busyness for Fr. Darryl and a move to a new house for Andy & Jane. But we can tell you that we *will* record a new episode as soon as we reasonably can, most likely at some point in July.

As always, we welcome your ideas and feedback!

And feel free to check out our past episodes.

Episode #41 (June 1, 2012): I can see clearly now, the Visioning has come

It’s the long-awaited podcast. Happy Ordinary Time!

  • Jane’s been leading a visioning process for youth ministry. It’s been a long process setting goals for up to 20 years in the future.
  • Focus attention to accomplish goals, rather than trying to do everything & accomplishing little or nothing.
  • Setting boundaries, saying yes or no based on whether or not somethat actually fits the vision.
  • Values were set, then the goals/visions will be based on those values.
  • Centre for Ministry Development – CCYMN – WCACYM
  • Core ideology – yin yang – balance – stability and progress – always in tension. Values create the stability.
  • BHAG – Big Hairy Audacious Goal and a vivid description of what the community would look like if the goal was achieved.
  • Get ye out of yonder comfort zone, sayeth the Lord!
  • Use the tools that work, punk. Truth does not contradict truth.
  • The Saskatoon diocese went through a visioning process recently too. Six priorities came out as areas to focus on.
  • Trees have roots. Good roots are good. Jesus said so.

Hashtag of the Week: #potato

Episode #40 (May 7, 2012): Cathedral Dedication

We’re back and we’re here. So there.

  • Jane drinks kiwi berries.
  • The Dedication of the Cathedral of the Holy Family will be taking place on Sunday, May 13th, 2012.
  • It’s the culmination of a week of festivities. Woo woo!
  • Someone from a NET team made a clever observation.
  • Andy and Jane helped plan a family carnival to kick off the festivities.
  • Warren, the balloon man, is awesome. He made Thomas.
Spencer with Thomas the Balloon Tank Engine

Spencer with Thomas the Balloon Tank Engine

    Out of balloons.
  • The new building has stats. Darryl talks about them.
  • Salt and Light will be recording the dedication.
  • Apparently dedications are complicated. Go figure.
  • The last cathedral dedication in North America was… probably the one in L.A. (2002)? In Canada, it’s probably been a few decades at least. Sacred Heart in Prince George (1960’s) might be the most recent?
  • The Crystal Cathedral will be the new cathedral in Orange.
  • Get tickets to the grand gathering.
  • The Prayer of Dedication is pretty.
  • Sticky is available for visual appreciation at andyland.ca
  • Granite does not absorb oil, apparently.
  • Remember: No kissing until after the blessing (of the altar).
  • Sarah Hall made nice windows.
  • Find people who have talents and are willing to share them.
  • Google Docs, Dropbox and Backpack.

Episode #39 (April 16, 2012): Easter Experiences in the Year of Our Lord Two Thousand and Twelve

(Alternate title: Did Jesus have a Wheaten Terrier?)

Join us as we talk about our experiences of Holy Week and Easter! What were your experiences?

Items we discussed:

  • The NHL Playoffs have been great so far.
  • Ice Ice Baby
  • Andy and Jane’s computer is on the blink. So Andy podcasts from his phone and makes notes on paper.
  • Happy birthday, Pope Benedict!
  • The new translation of the Exsultet talks about bees. This reminds Jane of Homestar Runner (and Fr. Darryl of the Bumble Bee man on The Simpsons).
  • The Triduum was tiring but good. And blizzard-y in Fr. Darryl’s area.
  • Jane getting sick was not so good.
  • Fr. Darryl’s dog forgot where the bathroom was. (And it’s not because Andy was podcasting from there…)
  • This Week in Tech (TWiT.tv) had a Jesuit priest on the most recent episode!

Hashtag of the Week: #cebu

Question of the Week: Would you Skype the Pope?

Song(s) of the Week: I’m Sensitive to Bees by Marzipan, with appearances from Homestar Runner and Strongbad; and Song of the Cebu from VeggieTales.

Episode #38 (March 30, 2012): Lent, RCIA, et cetera.

A picture of a doughnut to the tune of Away in a Manger.
Good day, eh. Our topic for today is actually two topics – all for the price of one! Better call in now while you can, ’cause you know we can’t keep this up all day! We’re talking about Christian Initiation and parish websites!

Hashtag of the Week: #spoonsofsalsa

Question of the Week: How has your Lent gone?

Song of the Week: Freedom Fighters (aka. the Star Trek movie trailer music) by Two Steps from Hell (Nick Phoenix and Thomas Bergersen), from the album “Invincible”. (The name kind of reminds Darryl of the Black Knight in Holy Grail.)

We welcome your input! Please comment below or send us feedback at feedback@hotcupofministry.ca. We can also be found on Facebook at facebook.com/hotcupofministry or the Twitter as @hotcupministry. Feel free to send samples of melatonin to Andy. Andy likes sleep, especially when it works.
