Episode #16 (June 13, 2011): Youth Ministry
Today we welcome Colm Leyne, the Coordinator of Youth Ministries for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon, for a discussion about parish youth ministry.
Some topics we discussed:
Goals for youth ministry: help young people to belong to the community, become active in it, and transform themselves and the world.
A great document about youth ministry from the USCCB: Renewing the Vision
The importance of presence and relational ministry. We need to listen to those whom we serve!
Know your audience: youth ministry to someone in grade 6 is not the same as it would be for someone in grade 12
The relationship between religious education and youth ministry.
The importance of staying current, relatable, and authentic in working with young people.
The internet is a great tool and we need to be involved! But it cannot replace real-life presence.
The hunger in our young people for authenticity and meaning is a reason for enthusiasm and hope!
Song of the week: Oh Why Did You? by Saskatoon artist Sarah Farthing
